A blog is type of website which is created and monitored by an individual with regular update like description of different events or other materials like pictures, videos or any other postings. Many blog websites act as a source of information on different subject or of a particular subject. Some of the websites more act as personal websites. Usually a blog contains text, pictures, videos and links to the other websites and other media links related to that particular subject.

Blogs are of different types like art blog, video blog, photo blog, mp3 blog but most blogs are primarily textual. Again the blogs are categorised differently like personal blog, corporate and organizational blogs etc.The personal blog by the name indicates an ongoing commentary by an individual is the most commonly seen blog website. The non-personal form of blog which is used in the business purposes is corporate and organizational blog.

The blog websites are concentrated on particular subject like politics, travel, house, education, project, fashion, classical music etc. A blog which includes video is called vlog and which compromises links are called linklog. The blog websites with shorter posts and mixed media are called tumble logs. Different blog search engines are used for searching the content of the blog. All the blogs are commonly grouped into a community and they are called blogosphere. The blogs are ranked by Technorati based on the number of incoming links. Blogs are also engaged in social service like they had an influence on minority languages which helps in bringing the scattered speakers together. Many books are also available based on different blogs. Usually the blog websites become popular through two measures like popularity through citation and popularity by affiliation.
